The RedRat3 and irNetBox USB Device Driver
These drivers support Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and Vista, 32-bit versions only.
They are not "digitally signed" - please see the windows
driver issues section below.
Please check carefully here to see which driver version you need:
| Version 1.7 | This should be used by most RedRat3 users. For those using the SDK, this driver lists RedRat3s as RedRat3-0, RedRat3-1 etc. |
| Version 1.9 | V1.9 is to be used with the USB version of the irNetBox (not the TCP/IP version) and the RedRat3. It supports up to 32 RedRat devices attached to a single PC. If you are using the SDK, then please note that it will list both irNetBoxes and RedRat3s as RedRat-0, RedRat-1 etc, i.e. differently from driver version V1.7. |

Windows Driver Issues
Driver Not Digitally Signed
A Windows device driver can be submitted to the Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality
Lab, and if sucessful can then be given a digital signature. Without a digital signature,
the operating system (especially XP) may warn the user about the fact it is not
signed. At this stage, we do not have the necessary resources to submit the driver
for testing, so RedRat3 users currently have to accept a non-signed driver.
Driver Update Failed
The algorithm Windows 2000 and XP use to update non-signed drivers is quite complex
and ignores the driver version number (presumably for security reasons). As a result,
the driver update described above may fail on some systems. When this happens, a
set of progressivly drastic measures can be taken to remove the old driver before
installing the new one. Please do not attempt the suggested actions below if you
do not feel comfortable doing so - we can accept no responsibility for the health
of your PC.
- Try the "Uninstall" action in the driver properties page (from Device Manager) and then install the new driver. As far as I can work out, it doesn't really uninstall the driver, but instead hides it. When you attempt a new install, this "uninstalled" driver can pop up again!
- If 1. fails, try again but following the uninstall remove any oemXX.inf files containing "RedRat" found in the Windows\inf (or WINNT\inf) directory. Install the new driver.
- If 2. fails, then the next steps involve deleting the actual driver file itself (rr3usb.sys) and possibly deleting some registry entries. Please email support before trying this.
