The RedRat
The RedRat is a universal remote control for your computer (PC, Windows or Linux)
providing infrared input and output via either USB or serial (RS232) port. It can
be used with most common computers to control audio visual equipment (such as Televisions,
VCR and DVD players etc.) and control PC applications using a standard infrared remote
control.
Application areas for the RedRat universal remote control include home automation,
assistive technology and enhancing multi-media applications on your home computer.
The RedRat3
Using a USB port on your PC, this gives real universal remote control features to your
computer. It also has support for IrDa-like remote control signal output.
- USB powered - no external power supply required.
- Two different IR detectors:
- Long range for control of your PC by remote.
- Short range for accurate IR signal "learning"
from your own remotes.
- High powered IR output - range greater than 10m.
- Supports IrDa-like IR signal output (Telewest and some NTL
cable set-top boxes in the UK) - more info.
- Firmware upgradable
- 2m or 3m cable
- Tested to comply with CE and FCC standards.
- Device driver and SDK available for the Windows platform.
It has been developed with the support of a UK government DTI Smart Micro-project award.
The RedRat2
We have been selling the RedRat2 for many years, and although not as feature rich as the
RedRat3 is still used by many customers. It connects to a computer via the serial port (RS232).
